In Cu Lao Dung, plastic waste is found in many places, from village roads and residential areas to schools and local markets. The widespread use of single-use plastic products, coupled with limitations in waste collection and management, is placing increasing pressure on the environment and public health.
To raise awareness and encourage students to take an active role in environmental protection, Mission Alliance Vietnam (NMA-V), in collaboration with Cu Lao Dung Primary School, An Thanh Nam Campus, launched a four-week campaign entitled “Plastic Waste Audit”, involving 386 students from Grades 1 to 5.
Throughout the campaign, students will count the plastic waste generated in their classrooms at the end of each school day and record the results on tracking sheets specially designed by NMA-V. Every Friday, students will review and compile their figures to monitor and compare progress. At the end of the campaign, the class generating the least amount of plastic waste would be recognised as the winner.
Alongside the waste auditing activity, the school organises school-wide awareness-raising activities to help students better understand the harmful effects of single-use plastic waste on the environment and human health.
Through this campaign, students not only gain a better understanding of plastic pollution but are also encouraged to observe their daily habits, make positive changes and take practical steps to reduce plastic waste, starting in their own classrooms.
